Abstract
The document presents findings of a study to determne the effectiveness of surface mine sedimentation basins in sediment removal during the occurrence of a variety of rare storm events. Through the use of simulation techniques, a series of six sedimentation basins were studied to determine their performance during the experience of three discrete precipitation events, the 2-year, 5-year, and 10-year twenty-four hour storms. The report details findings, conclusions, and recommendations relative to a surface mine sediment basin's ability to meet the current effluent guidelines for suspended solids removal.
