Abstract
A new approach for deriving runoff-related frequency curves is analyzed. The approach consists of deriving the frequency curves directly from the rainfall process. In this work the reliability and computational efficiency of the approach is assessed through the derivation of the flood frequency curves of a small hypothetical catchment. The procedure followed consisted of simulating a continuous series of rainfall events, selecting and routing the storms likely to produce large peak flows; then a series of peakflows, obtained from the derived hydrographs, is built and the flood frequency curve constructed.
