Abstract
The objective of the proposed research has been to develop a practical and effective strategy for the optimal expansion of a complex deterministic water resources system. Certain linear and nonlinear programming techniques have been combined and extended to serve as tools for the planning, design, evaluation, and management of complex water resources systems. A computer code was prepared to carry out all the required numerical calculations. A mathematical model of the components of a river basin that is compatible with the optimization strategy was prepared. An application of the results to a typical river basin is included to illustrate the numerical computations. (Modified author abstract)
