| Abstract |
Vehicle washing operations generate a wastewater that is contaminated with oils and greases, solids, and any detergents or solvents used in the washing operation. Vehicles are currently washed at six small washcracks located adjacent to the motor pool area. These pads are connected to an oil/water separator which discharges to the sanitary sewer. Wastewaters generated from vehicle washing operations at the six small washracks are treated in an oil water separator prior to discharge to a sanitary sewer. The waste control measures currently in place are only marginally effective for the combined vehicle washing and engine cleaning wastewaters. Vehicle washing operations generate a high volume wastewater that contains high concentrations of TSS, primarily sand. The waste minimization measures proposed are intended to reduce the quantity of waste generated, and to make that waste material more treatable by cost-effective treatment technologies. The proposed waste minimization measures involve building a new vehicle wash facility. |
