Abstract
This survey collects value of selected product shipments and revenues for specific services and construction projects defined for environmental use. It uses 1995 data, the latest available. The survey is the first attempt to measure the extent of commercial environmental activity using a comprehensive list of products and services. For the purpose of this survey, the environmental industry is defined as the manufacture of products, performance of services and the construction of projects used, or that potentially could be used, for measuring, preventing, limiting, or correcting environmental damage to air, water, and soil. The industry also includes services related to the removal, transportation, storage, or abatement of waste, noise, and other contaminants. This survey is based on a sample of private businesses involved in the commercial activities of the environmental industry. All of the samples businesses were asked to report only about selected products, services, or types of construction defined for environmental use. A detailed description of the survey scope and sample design, the survey forms used and a note on data collection appear in the final sections of this report.
