Abstract
The results of a study on the control of water quality in reservoirs by engineering methods is summarized. A lake in northern Kentucky, which normally stratifies thermall, was artificially destratified by bringing water from the bottom to the surface with a mechanical pump and later a diffused-air pump. Water quality analyses showed that the temperature of the lake became uniform with depth, dissolved oxygen was added to the water and reduced materials oxidized. Finally, algal populations on the surface were not increased by the destratification procedure.
