The study deals with theoretical and experimental investigations on selective withdrawal of a viscous, non-diffusive linearly stratified fluid from the bottom of a reservoir. Two-dimensional planar and axisymmetric flows are considered in the mathematical treatment. A model is developed to describe planar, bottom withdrawal. A solution to the governing differential equations is attempted using a momentum integral technique. Accordingly, the horizontal momentum equation is integrated across the withdrawal layer. An axisymmetric bottom withdrawal model is developed. The mathematical treatment is similar to that of the planar model. |
