Abstract
This report represents the first attempt by the Office of Research and Development (ORD) to present a 5-Year overview of ORD's research program, priorities and trends. The report will be updated annually. This overview is broken into ORD's five major programs which are: Health and ecological effect; Industrial processes; Public service activities; Monitoring and technical support; and Energy/Environment. ORD's working agreements with other Federal Agencies are also briefly described. In the near-term ORD has given priority to strengthening the Health and Ecological Effects Program. Another priority area is the Industrial Processes Program where pollution control technology R&D is needed if the 1985 water quality goals are to be more closely met. Emphasis will also be placed on monitoring and quality assurance R&D which support Agency regulatory actions.
