Abstract
Chemical stabilization/solidification is common practice in the disposal of radioactive waste. In recent years this method has been applied to treatment of hazardous materials. The potential impact on the environment of solid wastes disposed on land is most frequently assessed and predicted using bench scale laboratory leaching tests. In order to do this effectively, predictive mathematical models must be used. The paper shows the relationship of the hydrogen ion in the leachant, the distance of leaching front, and the alkalinity leached from the solid matrix. Using these results, kinetic leaching models are developed.
