Abstract
The ORD/Regional Training Workshop on Aquatic Life Criteria was held on December 4 - December 7, 2001, in Seattle, Washington. The workshop was chaired by Patricia Cirone (Region 10) with support from John Helvig (Region 7's Regional Science Liaison). The workshop was organized into three sessions: I. Plenary: Overview of Aquatic Life Criteria; II. Biocriteria and Nutrients; III. Toxic Chemicals. Scientists from EPA (Regions and Office of Research and Development), US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and states presented the status of scientific methods to derive aquatic life criteria as well as the limitations of these current criteria for setting standards. The need for new and better science came up as a frequent item for discussion, as did questions and concerns on the implementation and regulatory feasibility of some new advances.
