"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ... conducted the 1972 National Dump Site Survey in the summer and fall of 1972. The objective of the 1972 Survey was to make an estimate of the number of open and burning dumps in the United States so that at least general comparisons of the progress in upgrading land disposal practices over the past four years could be made. The Office of Solid Waste Management Programs, as the coordinator of the Survey, presents this report to the Regional Offices for their use in evaluating their Region's status regarding solid waste land disposal practices."--Introduction. |
