Abstract
The report documents the results of a limited oil gasification program to experimentally investigate the feasibility of using International Materials Corporation's Segas system for processing No. 2 and 4 fuel oils and No. 6 high-sulfur residual oil. Existing hardware, originally designed to operate on gasoline for automotive applications, was modified for these tests. The process consists of a high-temperature petrochemical reaction in which a liquid hydrocarbon is thermally decomposed and then reformed to a synthesis gas in the presence of high-temperature steam. Although all tests were not completed, sufficient results obtained to indicate that the process is capable of stable sustained operation. (Modified author abstract)
