Abstract
Major pollutional loads to the study waters are presented. Examination of these data indicates the large demand placed upon the assimilative capacity of these waters by the discharge of treated and untreated municipal and industrial wastes. The discharge of additional wastes in adjacent waters increases the magnitude and impact of the direct loads. Contamination by pollutants other than BOD from these same sources is also a significant problem, such as the discharge of unchlorinated and raw municipal wastes. Additional pollution results from the discharge of more than 1.0 billion gallons per day of 'hot' cooling water from power generating plants.
