The problem of naturally occurring p222s-radon contamination has received a great deal of public and scientific attention over the past several years, and has become a major public health issue worldwide. The purpose of the work reported in this document was to provide information about the behavior of ingested p222s-radon in the digestive system and other organs of the human body. p133s-Xenon, an element which behaves in the same manner as p222s-radon in tissue and differs only in tissue solubility, was used instudies on human subjects. The tissue solubility differences were accounted for by using the tissue/blood partition coefficients of the two gases. This report was submitted in fulfillment of cooperative agreement CR810942 by Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, under the sponsorship of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This report covers a period from 24 October 1983 to 23 April 1[9]86, andwork was completed as of 26 1987.
