Abstract
This report presents background information that supports the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) proposed emission standards for radionuclides pursuant to Section 112 of the Clean Air Act. An analysis of public health impacts from the following source categories is presented: (1) Department of Energy (DOE) facilities, (2) Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)-licensed and non-DOE Federal facilities, (3) coal-fired utility and industrial boilers, (4) uranium mines, (5) phosphate industry facilities, and (6) mineral extraction industry facilities. For each source category, the following information is presented: (1) a general description of the source category, (2) a brief description of the processes that lead to the emission of radionuclides into air, (3) a summary of emissions data, and (4) estimates of radiation doses and health risks to both individuals and populations.
