"The Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA) is an agreement between Canada and the United States of America (U.S.), first signed in 1972. Annex 3 commits the parties to identify and designate, on an ongoing basis, Chemicals of Mutual Concern (CMCs) in the Great Lakes, which originate from anthropogenic sources and that both parties may be harmful to the environment or human health. Under Annex 3, it is the responsibility of the parties to nominate substances for review and evaluation for potential designation as CMCs. This report evaluates the request for the designation of radionuclides as a candidate CMC under Annex 3"--Executive summary, p. ii.
