Abstract
The small amount of data available on the behavior of americium in plant and soil systems is reviewed and found lacking in several critical areas. Although some studies have been done on the physical and chemical interaction of americium on these systems, most of them were short-term and limited in scope. As americium is classified as a hazardous radionuclide and is likely to increase in importance as an environmental pollutant, further study is suggested. Also, the use of americium as a tool for measuring various soil parameters is discussed.
