Abstract
In the paper, the studies under way at the Robert A. aft Sanitary Engineering Center, Cincinnati, to define the levels of radioactive contaminantion in environmental samples, are described. Currently, measurements of gross activity are being made along with a few measurements of the more hazardous radionuclides. In addition, some other nuclides are identified. The levels of activity in air (from fallout and natural radioactivity), in rainfall, snow, cistern and surface water, and in milk and other food materials, are indicated. The contribution of these sources to the strontium-90 intake has been estimated and areas in which additional studies must be carried out delineated. (Author)
