Abstract
The recent Clean Air Act Amendments of 1977 called for the participation of local, state, and Federal air pollution control officials to meet ambient air quality standards as expeditiously as practicable. Several areas in Puerto Rico have been designated as not attaining the total suspended particulate (TSP) ambient air quality standard. The Clean Air Act requires that the states prepare a revision to their original State Implementation Plans (SIPs) that were previously submitted in 1972, which will show attainment of the particulate standards. As a result of this Congressional mandate, an engineering analysis was conducted for the attainment and maintenance of particulate levels in Puerto Rico.
