| Abstract |
EPA sponsored a program from 1997 to 1999 to test the use of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in local government operations. Nine sites were selected for inclusion in the study. Specific areas of interest were the applicability and benefits of EMS to environmental performance, compliance, pollution prevention and stakeholder involvement in local government operations. This report concludes that overall EMSs had a positive impact. Appendices include individual case studies from each site and sample documentation. |
