Abstract
Comparison is made between techniques used by the U.S. and reportedly used by the U.S.S.R. to measure electric field strengths under a 500 kV overhead power transmission line. Magnetic flux measurements were also made. Two instruments and three geometries were used in the electric field strength portion of the study. Maximum differences were noted when the measuring instrument was positioned close to the observer and at 1.8 meters above the ground as compared to one to two meters from the observer.
