Abstract
The problem of sewering small communities is generally one of prohibitive economics. In response to this problem alternative sewering methods which are lower in cost than conventional gravity sewers have been developed over the past two decades. The major alternative sewering methods are pressure, vacuum and small-diameter gravity systems. Their history costs and performance to date are discussed in a comprehensive manner.
