Abstract
The decision document presents the selected interim remedial action for the Townsend Saw Chain Company Site, Pontiac, Richland County, South Carolina. the purpose of this interim action is to prevent the continued offsite migration of the plume of contaminated groundwater. As a result of the site remedial investigation, the offsite area affected by chromium contamination in the surficial aquifer was found to extend a much greater distance from the site than previously known. Additionally, because the RI work to date has known that the contaminated groundwater discharges to a tributary and a creek, a potential threat exists to the environment within and surrounding those surface water bodies.
