Abstract
Analytical Methods were developed to determine the concentration of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin/polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDD/PCDF) in fish tissue for a national survey conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The method was designed to achieve a relatively low cost per sample while maintaining adequate quality control. It utilizes a Soxhlet extraction, acid-celite, florisil and carbon-silica gel chromatography, and HRGC/HRMS analysis. The minimum level of detection for 2,3,7,8-TCDD is approximately 1 pg/g. Rigorous quality assurance/quality control criteria have been developed to assure the validity of the data.
