Abstract
Data from a sound measurement survey conducted in 1981 within and in the vicinity of Glacier National Park are analyzed and presented. Measurements were made of oil and gas seismic exploration activities in the Flathead National Forest and Helena National Forest, including sounds from above ground blasting, helicopters and associated activities. Typical reference sound levels are identified for above ground blasts and helicopters, and theoretical procedures for estimating their propagation are developed considering the terrain and meteorological conditions characteristic of the Glacier Park area.
