Abstract
Studies have suggested that emissions of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs; also known as air toxics) are associated with risks to public health. The purpose of this document is to describe and present a compilation of data regarding noncancer health effects (i.e., excluding cancer and genetic toxicity) resulting from atmospheric exposures to hazardous air pollutants. This compilation complements earlier efforts to summarize the genetic toxicity of the HAPs and it supports identification of data gaps and research needed to improve health risk assessment. The information should be valuable as part of ongoing efforts by the EPA and State and local agencies to evaluate potential health concerns and to prioritize research and regulatory activities.
