Abstract
The Alternative Motor Fuels Act (AMFA) of 1988 requires the Department of Energy (DOE) to purchase alternative fuel motor vehicles for use in government fleets, and further requires DOE to cooperate with the Environmeneal Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Administration to evaluate potential safety, fuel economy, and emissions implications of these alternative technologies. The program is structured to provide exhaust and evaporative emissions characterization with AMFA fleet vehicles using a variety of fuels including 1990 industry average unleaded gasoline (RFA), reformulated gasoline (RFG), methanol (M85), ethanol (E85), and compressed natural gas (CNG), under a variety of transient driving scenarios including the certification Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS) of the Federal Test Procedure (FTP), and a high speed, high acceleration rate 'off-cycle' sequence (REP05). This report provides 1995 program results.
