Abstract
The mutagenicity of tri-n-butyl phosphate was evaluated in Salmonella tester strains TA98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537 and TA1538 (Ames Test), both in the presence and absence of added metabolic activation by Aroclor-induced rat liver S9 fraction. Tri-n-butyl phosphate, diluted with DMSO, was tested at concentrations up to 100ul/plate using the plate incorporation technique. Tri-n-butyl phosphate did not produce a positive response in any tester strain with metabolic activation. Tester strains TA1535, TA1537 and TA1538 without metabolic activation, produced twice the number of revertants/plate compared to the solvent control (DMSO) for at least three of the five test concentrations, but a dose-response was not observed.
