Abstract
EPA has completed its review of public comments on the revised risk assessments and is issuing its risk management decisions for phorate. The decisions outlined in this document do not include the final tolerance reassessment decision for phorate; however, some tolerance actions will be undertaken prior to completion of the final tolerance reassessment. EPA has proposed to revoke tolerances in or on meat, milk, poultry and eggs for residues of phorate because the Agency has determined that there are no reasonable expectations of finite residues and the tolerances are not necessary. Some tolerance reassessment actions such as revocations on alfalfa and barley have already been finalized while other tolerance reassessment decisions for this chemical will be issued once the cumulative assessment for all of the organiphosphates is complete. The Agency may need to pursue further risk management measures for phorate once the cumulative assessment is finalized. The revised risk assessments are based on review of the required target data base supporting the use patterns of currently registered products and new information received.
