Abstract
The 37-acre Publicker/Cuyahoga Wrecking Plant site is a former liquor and industrial alcohol distillery in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. From the 1970s to 1980s, the site was also used as a petroleum and chemical storage facility, which utilized 440 large above-ground tanks, stored chemicals, chemical laboratories, reaction vessels, production buildings, warehouses, a power plant, and several hundred miles of above-ground process lines, many of which were wrapped with asbestos insulation. The selected remedial action for the site includes removing approximately 150 cubic yards of asbestos from overhead extraction pipes and placing the material in plastic bags; staging the material, along with 6 cubic yards of asbestos from near a loading pier and 1,100 cubic yards of bagged asbestos from previous removal and remedial actions; and disposing of the staged asbestos offsite. The estimated present worth cost for the remedial action is $293,420.
