Abstract
Mass wasting in the Tombigbee Sand Member of the Eutaw Formation (Upper Cretaceous) is not an uncommon occurrence on steep bluffs developed on this unit in northeastern Mississippi. The most recent documented slide occurred on Monday, April 27, 1970, in the vicinity of the small man-made Acker Lake, approximately five miles (8 kilometers) north of Aberdeen. This report is a description of the slide and an interpretation by the authors of the factors involved in its development.
