Abstract
The report summarizes research concerning the flocculation of silica, bacteria, and algae, which are typical solid pollutants of water, by means of synthetic polymers, especially as regards the influence of multivalent metal cations such as Ca(+2), Mg(+2), Cu(+2), Zn(+2) on the flocculation processes. Also presented are results on how the flocculation of these dispersed systems is affected by addition of mixtures of cationic, anionic and nonionic polymers, which is often practiced in commercial operations.
