Abstract
The purpose of these studies was to demonstrate the applicability of the particle beam principle to measure the size of submicron aerosols and to develop and test a theory which describes the particle trajectories in the beam. Particle beams were generated by continuous nozzle expansion. Particle trajectories were calculated downstream from the nozzle using the method of characteristics for supersonic flow. Stokes drag was assumed for the interaction between gas flow and particles.
