Abstract |
The report presents the results of two field studies conducted in 1986 by the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Toxic Substances (EPA/OTS) under the existing chemicals program to screen selected waterbodies for the presence of chlorinated paraffins. Chlorinated paraffins are saturated straight-chain hydrocarbons ranging from 10 to 30 carbons in length and containing 20 to 70 percent chlorine by weight. The information gained from these field studies will be coupled with that from other environmental hazard and environmental exposure studies and collectively contribute to an EPA risk assessment for this chemical. The report also develops an analytical method for chlorinated paraffins in different environmental matrices and includes a rigorous statistical analysis of the data used to validate the method. |
