These proceedings contain a brief report of the workshop and texts of speeches, reports, and discussions on environmental management in the iron and steel industry. The workshop was presented by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). Items on the agenda included an introduction to the iron and steel industry; iron material preparation; reduction and steel making by blast furnace and by scrap based blast furnace; rolling, fabrication and coating, waste treatment, solid waste; environmental management policy; occupational hygiene; work safety and accident and hazard prevention; and standards and regulations and their implementation. Presentations were also made on the situations in several areas including China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Phillipines, Korea, and Thailand.
