Abstract
The report presents a description of the industry, its method of operation and the chemical processes utilized. Also presented are comprehensive industry statistics including type, size and location of present day plants and past, present and projected industry trends. The following environmental and economic information is presented: types and quantities of air pollution emissions and their geographical distribution; the effect of operations on air pollution emissions; the impact of emissions on air quality; the type and effectiveness of existing control technology; performance and costs of best control technology; the economic impact of the use of best control by the industry; emission measurement techniques and problems; inspection procedures to determine compliance with air pollution regulations; and areas of needed research and development. The manufacture of various pigments is included as part of the Paint and Varnish Industry study. A three page bibliography is included in the report. The manufacture of TiO2 was studied in detail.
