Abstract
The report is a state-of-the-art reference of methods, procedures and practices for including water quality consideration in the planning and management of forest harvest, residue treatment and reforestation activities. The report presents a background description of EPA Region X by dividing the region into thirteen sub-regions based on similar forest species, climate, geology, and soil parent material. This is followed by a discussion of the interaction of water quality problems with forest management, soil erosion and hydrology. Current forest practices in the Pacific Northwest are described and related to their water quality impacts. The study concludes with a section on the planning and management methods that can be used to reduce and prevent pollution from logging, residue management and reforestation.
