Abstract | The study was undertaken to assess the extent of metabolic adaptation exhibited by fish exposed for relatively short periods of time to low levels of oxygen. Metabolic parameters investigated in the present study are metabolic rate of the whole animal, oxygen consumption of selected tissues, activity levels of certain respiratory enzymes, and levels of energy stores. Most of the study was done on the bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus). |
