Abstract
Numerous research projects have examined the occurrences of air pollution in outdoor and workplace environments. A smaller, newer body of research has examined air pollution in nonworkplace, indoor environments. A new emphasis on measures to conserve energy in buildings, curbing heat loss through reduced indoor-outdoor air exchange, has encouraged interest in the relation between indoor and outdoor air quality, building energy conservation, and the potentials for adverse health effects from indoor air pollution in nonworkplace environments. A review of this body of research is the subject of this report. The preparation of this report required a comprehensive survey and assessment of the state-of-the-art of indoor air pollution research described in published literature and unpublished ongoing research.
