The Reregistration Eligibility Document (RED) will address the eligibility for reregistration of products containing 10, 10'-Oxybisphenoxarsine (OBPA). OBPA is a bacteriostat, disinfectant (bacteriocide/germicide) and fungicide pesticide. Its use category is: indoor non-food. The arsenic-containing heterocyclic compound is incorporated into flexible vinyl sheeting and extrusions, silicone caulking compounds, thermoplastic adhesives, polyurethane, and latex emulsions (not including paints, ink bases and textiles) to prevent the growth of microorganisms. Although flexible vinyls and silicones in themselves are resistant to microbiological deterioration, the use of OBPA formulations in products made from these materials is necessary due to microbial susceptibility of plasticizers, lubricants, and fillers which are added to obtain desirable physical and chemical properties.
