Abstract |
The Drinking Water Research Division of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has responsibility for obtaining data on the performance and cost of granular activated carbon (GAC) systems for controlling selected synthetic organic chemicals (SOCs). An approach is presented that utilizes a combination of predictive modeling and microcolumn studies to generate single-solute breakthrough curves for several SOCs and to determine full-scale GAC use rates. Based on breakthrough and economic data, cost estimates have been developed for GAC treatment at various system sizes and use rates. |
