Abstract
Experimental research on the chemical structure of aquatic humic material has been stimulated in the last decade by public health interest in possible adverse human health effects of reaction by-products of humic materials with chlorine. The purpose of the paper is to describe the direction of current research involving reaction of aquatic humic and fulvic acid selected oxidants, primarily KMnO4 and HOC1, which are used in water treatment, the latter particularly for the control of infectious agents.
