Abstract
The test substance was administered by intragastric intubation to 1 group of 5 male rats at a dosage of 5000 mg/kg and 3 groups of 5 female rats at dosages of 1000, 3000, or 5000 mg/kg. Surviving rats were weighed and observed for mortality or clinical signs of toxicity over a 14-day observation period. All rats were subjected to gross pathology after death or after the 14-day observation period. No deaths occurred in male rats dosed at 5000 mg/kg; spasms were observed in 1 of these rats during the study. AII female rats dosed at 5000 mg/kg died during the study. Ataxia was observed in one of these rats on the day of dosing, and this rat was found dead the day after dosing. Two rats dosed at 3000 mg/kg died during the study. One of these rats exhibited tremors on test days 2 to 4 and was found dead on test day 5. Another rat dosed at 3000 mg/kg exhibited ataxia on test days 2 and 3; this rat survived to study completion.
