The document is intended as a progress report of research on the impact of oil and dispersant on marine birds conducted between May and October in Newfoundland, Canada. Funding was provided by the American Petroleum Institute (under Contract number EH-11 (523-2)) and the Toxic Chemicals Division of the Canadian Wildlife Service. The report includes the project's rationale, summaries of research accomplished, and a brief description of the second phase of the project which will begin in May, 1983. Unless otherwise stated, confirmation of preliminary observations presented in the paper awaits completion of thorough data analysis. The results and interpretation of this research will be presented in the project's final report.
