Abstract |
This report summarizes the results of a three-year grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to investigate various aspects of circulation dynamics and primary production in a deep inlet environment. Throughout the course of the research, special attention has been given to Puget Sound, Washington, although many of the findings are applicable to other deep inlet waters. The several tasks undertaken during the course of the project fall into three general categories: (1) Numerical modeling of gravitational convection and tidal motions in deep esturaries; (2) Hydraulic model studies of tidal circulation patterns and dye dispersal characteristics in Puget Sound; and (3) Numerical modeling of primary production in a deep inlet (in particular, the deep central basin of Puget Sound). |
