Abstract
The Chemical Use Standard Encoding System (ChemUSES) provides a standard format and nomenclature for use in collecting and exchanging information about chemical uses. ChemUSES is a system for describing a chemical use by the function the chemical serves and the setting or application in which it serves that function. ChemUSES is composed of two lists of terms: The Function List and the Application List. Terms from these lists are selected to describe functions and applications. A use is defined when both the function and application are specified. This volume contains user instructions for the system.
