Abstract |
The report provides the technical data base for the promulgation of effluent limitations guidelines for the Pesticide Chemicals Industry. For the purpose of the study, the Pesticide Industry consists of organic pesticide chemicals manufacturers, metallo-organic pesticide chemical manufacturers, and pesticide chemicals formulator/packagers. Effluent limitations guidelines for Best Available Technology, Economically Achievable, New Source Performance Standards, Pretreatment Standards for Existing Source and New Sources are promulgated under authority of the amended Clean Water Act. The report addresses 126 priority pollutants as well as nonconventional pesticide pollutants under 40 CFR 455. Analytical methods for the priority pollutants and nonconventional pesticide are also discussed. The principal groups of pollutants detected or indicated by the process chemistry evaluation to be present in untreated pesticide process wastewaters were phenols, volatiles (aromatics, halomethanes, and chlorinated ethanes and ethylenes), nitrosamines, dienes, cyanide, metals and pesticides. |
