Abstract
Several citizens advisory groups in New England, particularly those related to water resources planning, are surveyed. In addition, the concept of advisory groups is critically discussed and research issues relating to their roles are outlined. Citizen advisory groups fall into three categories and are expected to play an important role in water resources planning, given the increasing public ecological concern and lack of faith in governmental decision-making.
