Abstract
Natural gas is an abundant, clean-burning fuel considered universally to be an important energy source. As the Clinton administration sets its energy policy agenda, the impact of natural gas on this nation`s future energy mix has become an important question. What role will natural gas play in the National Energy Policy? What are the environmental considerations surrounding an increased use of this fuel? How will natural gas influence the electric utility future? And how will it affect the transportation sector? These and many other issues were addressed at the Annual Illinois Energy Conference. The members of the planning committee were brought together for a full-day session where they were asked to assess the economic and political impacts of an enhanced role for natural gas in this country`s energy future. The planning committee identified several major issues: role of natural gas in the National Energy Policy; impacts of environmental legislation on natural gas; role of natural gas in electric power generation; and outlook for natural gas in the transportation sector. The proceedings contain 19 papers.
