Abstract |
National emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (NESHAP) are established under Section 112 of the Clean Air Act (CAA) (P.L. 101-459), as amended in 1990. Section 112(b) of the CAA contains a list of hazardous air pollutants (HAP's), which are the specific air toxics to be regulated by NESHAP. Chromium compounds are included on the list of HAP's established in Section 112(b) of the CAA. Section 112(c) requires the Administrator to use this pollutant list to develop and publish a list of source categories for which NESHAP are to be developed. Industrial process cooling towers (IPCT's), which emit chromium compounds, are included on the source category list. The background information document (BID) supports proposed standards for chromium emissions from IPCT's. |
